The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is the world's largest archaeological museum dedicated to a single civilization, located on the Giza plateau near the famous pyramids. It was officially opened on November 1, 2025, after a project costing $1.2 billion. It spans 500,000 square meters and houses over 100,000 artifacts, with 50,000 on display. The Irish design resembles rays of the sun emanating from the pyramids, blending ancient beauty with modern technology to preserve the artifacts.
The idea began in the 1990s to provide more space than the old museum in Tahrir. In 2002, the foundation stone was laid, work was halted after the 2011 revolution, then resumed in 2014. The COVID pandemic delayed the opening, but the 2025 ceremony was grand, attended by President El-Sisi and international delegations, focusing on Tutankhamun's treasures as the star of the event, sparking a wave of national pride worldwide.
Did you know that Tutankhamun's golden mask, weighing 11 kilos, will be displayed in full for the first time after 3,300 years? This is the real secret of its attraction!
The exhibits include the complete Tutankhamun tomb collection, including the famous mask and jewelry, discovered in 1922. There are also colossal statues of Ramses II, royal boats, and artifacts from the Stone Age to the Roman era. The museum narrates Egypt's history over 7,000 years through 12 halls, with interactive screens and virtual reality. It includes a restoration center for 500 pieces and a children's museum.
If you visit the museum, you'll leave feeling the pharaohs whispering secrets of immortality to you... An unforgettable journey!
The museum boosts tourism, expecting 5 million visitors annually, and is called a "platform for civilizational dialogue. .
